Strengthening cooperation between the Municipal System and the Cartographic Institute of Catalonia

The delegation was headed by H.E. Dr. Abdullah Ghareeb Al-Baloushi the Executive Director of the Land & Property Management Sector in the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) and included a number of engineers and specialists in the spatial data systems in the three municipalities of the emirate, Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain City and the Western Region.

During the visit, the Municipal Delegation discussed possible ways of enhancing cooperation between both sides and had a deed insights into the different activities and services produced by the Cartography Institute of Catalonia.

Commented on this visit, H.E Dr. Abdullah Ghareeb Al-Baloushi the Executive Director of the Land & Property Management Sector at the Department of Municipal Affairs, the governmental body responsible for providing and managing and updating the base maps for all areas of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi said that this trip aims to exchange knowledge and experience with international institutions specialized in the GIS sector, and it comes in line with the goal of the DMA to adopt the best geographic information system and data – related services, pointing to the achievements of the Municipal System in this field. The Delegation Visiting Schedule includes a close look at major facilities and services produced by the ICC like the Integrated Geodetic Positioning System of Catalonia, the Remote Sensing in desert areas and the ICC’s knowledge in this field and the extraction of cartographic objects in high resolution satellite images.

It is worth mentioning that this visit comes in the light of the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two sides recently and takes place at a time where the Department of Municipal Affairs is developing an integrated spatial data infrastructure which will enhance services in this sector to the clients and partners of the municipal system in the public and private sector through the well-connected systems that can keep pace with the rapid growth of the spatial data sector and support the economic growth and comprehensive development in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
