DEWA conducts mid-year strategy review

DEWA will also launch several new initiatives, conferences, and international exhibitions to promote sustainable development, and to achieve the vision of the Government of Dubai to promote the Emirate as a global hub for trade, finance and tourism.

Al Tayer said that DEWA is also currently placing the highest emphasis on the development of mobile-based services in line with the mGovernment initiative announced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and to strengthening e-Services to enable an effective and balanced transformation into fully integrated electronic and mobile services infrastructure.

Al Tayer announced this at the mid-year strategy review of DEWA held in the presence of Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, Department Heads, and senior officials, to assess DEWA’s strategic growth in the past six months, and discuss the latest developments related to administrative operations, as well as current and future projects.

“During these regular meetings, we focus our discussions on developments associated with DEWA’s long-term strategic plan and review its performance over the last six months, so we can focus on enhancing positive performance and work on opportunities for improvement. We have a strong belief in our ability to address challenges, and turn them into successes and achievements. In this, we are guided by the words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, from his book, ‘Flashes of Inspiration.’ “It takes long-term vision and utmost ambition to build a bright future for generations to come. That’s what we follow,” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer stressed that DEWA adopts a long-term corporate strategy to enable the team to face difficulties, create opportunities, and shape its future. DEWA has recorded many achievements locally, regionally, and globally in various areas, serving as an international standard and serving as a role model in the areas of sustainability, efficiency, reliability, customer service, operational processes, and renewable energy.

Al Tayer praised the vision of the leaders, the instructions of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the intensive follow-up of all operations by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance, and Chairman of DEWA.

He also underlined the great work of the management, and staff, and their sincere efforts to achieve development, and promote the welfare of the society.

Al Tayer said that the first half of this year was marked by several achievements by DEWA on a national and global level. These included the opening of DEWA’s Sustainable Building in Al Quoz, the first sustainable building in the UAE, and the largest government building in the world to obtain a Platinum rating for green buildings, and the opening of the M-Station, the largest electricity production, and water desalination plant in the UAE, at a cost of more than Dhs10bn. M-station enhances production capacity to 9,646MW of electricity, and 470 million imperials gallons of desalinated water per day, to meet current and future demand of electricity and water in the Emirate of Dubai.

The MD and CEO of DEWA urged to continue these efforts in line with the smart government initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoumas a strategic path for all government departments. DEWA marked remarkable achievements in providing electronic services to its customers, with a 100%, e-transformation at DEWA at and the adoption of electronic services around 56%, one of the highest rates of e-transformation in the government sector of Dubai. The number of DEWA’s e-services has reached over 44, allowing DEWA to provide services 24/7, anywhere in the world. DEWA has also been further promoting its mobile services, and by simplifying procedures, it has raised its productivity and performance efficiency as well as the reliability of services provided to customers, in line with the highest international standards.

Al Tayer expressed his delight that DEWA’s efforts in winning the Global Risk Award for Building Risk Management Capability from the UK-based Institute of Risk Management (IRM), in 2013. This was in recognition of DEWA’s efforts in applying the highest international standards, based on the ISO 31000 certification, facing off competition from around 350 institutions from around the world, to become the first institution in the Middle East and Africa to win this prestigious award.

On hosting the Water, Energy Technology and Environment Exhibition “WETEX 2013” in April, Al Tayer said, “WETEX this year witnessed a complete shift in the size and quality of the exhibition. In its 15th year, the exhibition recorded the participation of 1,350 companies and institutions from all over the world. The event was an unprecedented success, enhancing its status at a global level, which demonstrates DEWA’s leadership in the power, water, environmental, green solutions, and sustainability sectors.”

“We have a clear vision to become a world-class sustainable utility, paving the way for us to achieve more, and reinforce our leading position on national and global levels. Our responsibility towards sustainability is not limited to taking into account the environmental aspects in all our operations, but also to include our active participation in promoting sustainable development in the Emirate of Dubai.

“The mid-year strategy review reflects DEWA’s commitment to implementing proper planning, to achieve our strategic goals in term of quality and quantity. Having adopted sustainable corporate principles across our various operations, we are moving forward steadily in driving our vision of becoming a sustainable world-class utility,” said Waleed Salman, EVP of Strategy and Business Development.

“We reviewed the strategy of our divisions and DEWA’s various projects, which will be implemented to maintain our strategic direction. This year, the middle management participated effectively and played an important role in drawing out divisional strategic plans. This assures that our strategy allows different management to be active and engaging,” added Salman.

At the event, Al Tayer honored individual and divisional winners of DEWA’s Strategy Award.
