DEWA launches ‘Make the Switch’ campaign in run-up to Earth Hour

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched its ‘Make the Switch’ campaign to encourage the rational the use of electricity and water by Dubai residents. The campaign aims to educate residents on the importance of conserving energy by adopting simple yet effective methods such as switching to energy-efficient bulbs, unplugging unused appliances and adjusting the air conditioner to 24 degrees Celsius.

The campaign is part of a series of events in the run-up to Earth Hour in Dubai, which is under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, by DEWA on 29 March. DEWA is organising Earth Hour, which is under the umbrella of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and in partnership with Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS), which works in association with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and in collaboration with Dubai Properties Group, .

“In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the UAE Vision 2021 to establish the UAE as one of the best nations in the world, DEWA undertakes several key initiatives to achieve the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to reduce demand for energy in Dubai by 30% in 2030 and promote all-round sustainability, including the rational use of electricity and water,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“The campaign is part of the framework for the plan adopted by DEWA to ensure a safe and sustainable future for generations to come. We have integrated this initiative with DEWA’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to raise awareness on rationalising the use of electricity and water among all residents in Dubai,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, VP Marketing & Corporate Communications of DEWA.

“We have designed and launched this campaign after conducting studies and surveys to learn more about our consumers’ behaviour over the last year. This campaign aims to promote a series of simple tips that can be adopted by consumers in their daily lives to achieve positive results and reduce electricity and water use,” said Amal Koshak, Senior Manager of Marketing Communications at DEWA.

The campaign has been launched in collaboration with several government departments and businesses. Al Tayer thanked all partners and supporters and emphasized the importance of promoting joint ventures with relevant organisations to achieve the sustainable development of Dubai.
