The delegation included Robert Waller, US Consul General to Dubai, and 40 senior representatives of American organisations working in the energy, water and environment sectors. The meeting was attended by Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Power Generation, Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, Yousif Jebril, Executive Vice President of Power and Water Planning, Khawla Al Mehairi, VP Marketing & Corporate Communications, Ahmed Abdullah, Senior Manager for External Communications and other senior officials of DEWA.

Al Tayer said that the delegation aims to strengthen cooperation and joint action between DEWA and US companies operating in the energy sector, adding that Dubai is a strong market for huge investment projects, led by the city’s preparations to host the World Expo 2020, as per the directive of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Al Tayer presented current and estimated future projects to achieve the Dubai Integrated Energy strategy 2030 and efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce consumption by 30% by 2030. He also outlined the expansion of M-Station in Jebel Ali, the largest electricity and water plant in the UAE, to a planned capacity of 2,600MW on completion in 2018. He also presented the Hassyan Clean Coal Power Plant, which will use clean coal as feedstock for electricity generation.

Al Tayer showcased the workflow of the second phase of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with a planned capacity of 100MW. The first phase, producing 13MW, was inaugurated by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in October 2013. The Park will have a capacity of 1,000MW upon completion of all stages in 2030.

Ahead of the meeting, Al Tayer took Secretary Pritzker and the delegation on a tour of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Pritzker praised DEWA’s strategy, policies and continuing efforts to develop the clean energy and renewable energy sector in the region.

Al Tayer invited the delegation to participate in tenders for DEWA’s mega projects that are due for launch this year, as well as the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2014), which will be held from 14-16 April 2014 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. WETEX 2014 serves as a perfect platform to build effective partnerships that contribute to the development of the energy sector and to achieve common goals.

During the meeting, DEWA’s Executive Directors presented various projects and their strategic initiatives, and reviewed ways of cooperation for joint projects to support the Dubai Smart Government initiative and contribute to achieving the UAE Vision 2021.
Secretary Pritzker and the delegation thanked DEWA for the warm welcome and the comprehensive tour of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, as well as the valuable opportunity to discuss various spheres of collaboration.
