Villa Rotana, in collaboration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Refreshment (P.J.S.C.) and Wild Wadi Water Park, is celebrating the World Water Day 2014, by giving an awareness session about the water conservation, water & energy and sustainability.
The event aimed to strengthen awareness on the need to rationalise the use of electricity and water, and to adopt eco-friendly and energy efficient technologies, which will enable us to further reinforce its committed efforts to conserve natural resources.
World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Each year, UN-Water chooses a different theme for World Water Day to highlight a specific aspect of freshwater.
Water and Energy was the focus theme of this year and the awareness session given versed on relevant topics and their relation to the subject. The main topics addressed were water conservation practices including tips for saving water along with water sustainability topics including updated fact & figures, energy and water use efficiency.
The awareness session was hosted by Villa Rotana Dubai, with an opening speech from the General Manager, Mr Kinan Al Ghraoui, followed by the input session from Mr. Ali Mohammad Amjad, Senior Officer of Electricity and Water Conservation at DEWA, furthermore on sustainability by Mr. Jawad Ali, Environment, Health and Safety Manager of Villa, Rihab and Rimal Rotana.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kinan Al Ghraoui General Manager of Villa, Rihab and Rimal Rotana, said, “It is very important for our colleagues to understand the importance of water and work towards preserving it. Fresh water is a global challenge and such challenges could be tackled only if all stakeholders come together and supplement government efforts. I would like to thanks our partners DEWA, Dubai Refreshment and Wild Wadi Water Park for their strong collaboration to make this event a success as they share with us the same ambition of protecting our environment and creating a better life for all.”
After the awareness session, a group of colleagues from Villa, Rihab and Rimal Rotana distributed 1,000 Aquafina water bottles to municipality and construction workers working outside in harsh conditions across specific areas in Dubai. All partners were recognized by Mr. Kinan Al Ghraoui with an Award for their active participation and encouragement towards this worldwide celebration.
