The public awareness campaign, which aims at spreading awareness on the ill-effects of smoking across the UAE, was launched by Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Saif Bin Kalban, CEO – Primary Health Care of Dubai Health Authority by unveiling the co-branded Quit Tobacco Poster at Zabeel Park, Dubai, in the presence of Dr. (Mrs.) Hanan Obaid, Head of Community Services, DHA, and Mr. Mohammed Hassan Al Fardan, Head of Promotions & Recreations Office of Public Parks, Dubai Muncipality, Padma Shri Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman, DM Healthcare and other officials and the park visitors.
ASTER, one of the verticals of the DM Healthcare, has welcomed an overwhelming response from the community towards the public awareness drive. As part of the campaign, it set up a screening camp at the Zabeel Park, Dubai on Thursday. The event offered an opportunity to smokers as well as non-smokers to get their health screening done. Free health screenings, lung testing, counseling etc., were conducted by a team of expert doctors and paramedics, for visitors at the Zabeel Park, Dubai.
Commenting on the campaign, Padma Shri Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman of DM Healthcare, said, “We are very passionate about driving awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco use. We thank DHA, Dubai Municipality, media and other organizations who have been supportive of our mission. Though it is a common knowledge that tobacco contains cancer-causing toxic chemicals, many are unable to quit as the nicotine effects reaches the brain rapidly thus making it an instant addictive. Through this campaign, we hope not only to help smokers quit but also motivate them to get others to quit. We hope that Dubai, as in many other things, will lead the world to be tobacco free someday.”
Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Saif Bin Kalban, CEO – Primary Health Care of Dubai Health Authority, emphasized on the importance of getting rid of the smoking habit and reemphasized the support of his organization in the mission.
As part of the campaign, DM Healthcare has introduced an informative and graphic booklet “STUB IT” on ill effects of tobacco use, which was released by Mr. Mohammed Hassan Al Fardan of the Dubai Municipality. The booklet was distributed free to all visitors at the Zabeel Park, Dubai.
Mr. Mohammed Hassan Al Fardan commented, “Smoking shisha has been banned in the public parks of Dubai since the last two years. We are more than happy to support the mission of DM Healthcare to spread the awareness to a wider circle, for the public benefits and felicitating the law to impose a total smoking ban in public places in the emirate.”
The awareness campaign against tobacco use was launched last year by DM Healthcare. The campaign has received an overwhelming response from various corporate houses and institutions, over the past several months, and has organized numerous health drives against tobacco use in their premises. DM Healthcare has now taken the campaign forward in association with DHA and Dubai Municipality to reach to public at large and communicate, through interactive activities, free health screenings and counseling on the adverse effects of tobacco usage.
