Under the DTCM umbrella, 11 private tour operators and hotels participated in the Japanese Association of Travel Agents (JATA) Exhibition held in Tokyo from September 22 to 24.
This was Dubai’s 9th consecutive year of participation in JATA.
The 26th edition of JATA attracted over 800 exhibitors from over 100 countries. The exhibition drew over 100,000 visitors, including more than 36,000 travel trade and media representatives.
Participants at the Dubai stand provided insight to the travel industries decision makers and the general public about the interesting facets of Arabian traditions and culture.
A Dubai Workshop was organised for the Japanese travel trade in Tokyo on September 26.
The initiative attracted 13 co-participants and a co-sponsor, Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa. The airline co-participants were Emirates and Hong Kong Dragon Airlines. More than 150 people from the local travel industry and media were invited for the programme.
Two-way trade between Japan and Dubai has seen phenomenal growth in the recent years. Air connections between Dubai and Japan have been expanding, especially after the launch of direct flights by the Emirates.
Mr. Saleh Al Geziry, DTCM Deputy Manager Overseas Promotions, represented the department in both of the promotional events.
Dubai hotel establishments recorded a 13 % increase in Japanese guests in the first half of 2005 compared with the corresponding period last year. Dubai registered a 29 % increase in Japanese guests in 2004 compared with 2003.
The trade between Japan and the UAE is showing an upward trend as Japan has become the third largest partner with the country in terms of the quantity of trade exchange.
The UAE was Japan’s 22nd largest export market in the world in 2004.
Japanese export to the UAE grew by 27% in 2004 reaching US$4.6 billion due to strong product demand in a buoyant UAE economy while imports rose by more than 28% to US$18.3 billion.
