The Dubai Autism Centre is hosting a two-day seminar under the title: ‘Autism and the SCERTS Model’ which will benefit relevant institutions, government organizations, caregivers of children enrolled in autism and special needs centres from the various medical and educational fields, as well as parents and family members.
The seminar is a two-day event that will be held on 18th & 19th of January 2014 at the Saudi German Hospital in Dubai. It will present the SCERTS Model, which is a comprehensive educational approach for children with autism and related developmental disabilities.
The seminar will be presented by the well-known speaker Dr. Barry M. Prizant, who is an Adjunct Professor at Brown University, and Director of Childhood Communication Services in US. He has more than 40 years experience as a clinical scholar, researcher and consultant to children and adults with ASD and their families.
The SCERTS Model incorporates educational strategies derived from empirical research and sound clinical/educational practice. The collaborators include Dr. Barry Prizant and researchers: Amy Wetherby, Emily Rubin and Amy Laurent, who draw from almost 100 years of collective experience and training in a variety of treatment models for children with ASD, and have published over 130 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, as well as books and assessment instruments.

Dubai Autism Canter specializes in the assessment and diagnosis of autism, as well as providing appropriate intervention programs and support to children diagnosed with autism and their families. Since its inception, the centre has also been very active in spreading awareness and knowledge about this disorder through periodical awareness campaigns. The canter consistently works to highlight the latest developments in research and intervention programs and the importance of early diagnosis.
