‘Dubai Cares’ was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, on 19 September in Dubai.
The wife of Eissa bin Abdul Latif bin Nasser al Sarkal pledged AED1 million. AED500 thousand and AED30 thousand were donated to the campaign by two women, both wishing to remain anonymous.
The donation will help lay the foundations for students – and their communities – to escape the reins of poverty. ‘Dubai Cares’ sets out to build new school facilities; renovate/rehabilitate existing abandoned and/or damaged school premises; distribute school supply materials; award student scholarships; coordinate a feeding programme at schools; an annual medical check-up for students and teachers; and provide training and workshops to benefit teachers.
‘Dubai Cares’ joins a list of international initiatives launched in Dubai that express Dubai’s will to play an effective role contributing to achieving the world’s mission to secure a better tomorrow for future generations. The six-week campaign is Dubai’s contribution to a global drive to assist countries in achieving their U.N. Millennium Development Goals for providing Children’s Primary Education to every child by 2015.
