For the first time, companies from across the GCC actively participated in the Best Practice Seminars for the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award, organised by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently.
The Award, organised under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, is now open to businesses registered in all GCC countries. Previously it was only open to UAE-registered businesses.
Dubai Chamber organised three half-day Best Practice Seminars on May 5, 6, and 7, to provide companies with knowledge of business best practices, access to high-level networking and an opportunity to learn from previous award winners on their practical methods to overcome challenges and become outperformers.
Dr Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, said: “This year the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award is available to businesses across the GCC. This is a very important step for the future development and cohesion of the region’s business communities. The Award is a proven method for businesses to enhance their operations and become outperformers in their specific sector.
“The Best Practice Seminars are an excellent way for companies to learn about international best in class business practices and we are very happy with the engagement of GCC businesses in this series,” Dr Rettab said.
Topics covered during the seminars included, the importance of corporate culture to create organisational competitive assets, enhancing transparency through corporate governance to create customer value and creating value through and effective leadership. Speakers included previous award-winning companies; Barakat Quality Plus, Pacific Control Systems, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Intercoil International, EPPCO Aviation and EROS Group.

The next step in the Business Performance Programme will see a series of training workshops held in Dubai on May 18-19 and May 20-21. These workshops are designed to teach participants about the award’s framework and how to prepare a good quality application. The training will be delivered by a world renowned expert in business excellence with extensive experience in international business excellence models from the United States and Singapore, as well as Dubai Chamber experts in business excellence and corporate social responsibility.
Following the training workshops, the Business Performance Programme will conduct a high level assessment process undertaken by a team of esteemed international and independent assessors associated with renowned excellence awards from the US and Singapore. These assessors will join hands with the award’s regional assessors to conduct a comprehensive assessment of each application in consistency with the criteria of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Performance Model.
