As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry launched Sehhati, a three-month wellness programme in support of the World Health and Safety at Work Day marked on April 28 all around the world.

Organised in collaboration with Healthtrendz, an association under Dubai World Trade Center, this three-month individually tailored wellness programme, is designed to empower the Chamber staff in leading a healthier life by helping them to achieve their weight and fitness goals, while addressing societal issues such as obesity and hypertension.

The wellness program goes beyond one-off lectures and tests and also has a competition element in it with cash rewards to boost participation and enthusiasm. Competition started on April 10 and ends on June 27 before Ramadan.

Throughout the course of the fitness programme, participating staff are taking a few individual in-body analyses and coaching sessions to assist them in achieving their weight loss goals. They have to wear Fitbit wrist bands to monitor their activities like steps taken, floors climbed, calories burned and number of hours spent sleeping.

Best performing staff and team will be awarded by the end of the program based on the most improved individual and most number of steps taken by an individual and a team.

Essa Ali Al Zaabi, Senior Vice-President, Institutional Support Sector, Dubai Chamber, stated that on its part the Chamber is committed to the health and safety of its staff members and has this month launched the Sehhati programme to inspire its employees to keep their weight under check and to lead a healthy lifestyle.

“We believe that a healthy workforce means a healthy organisation and to achieve that goal we have a number of health and safety measures in place like encouraging our staff members to go to a gym or take on any other fitness regimen of their choice.

Dubai Chamber regularly conducts various health and safety training programmes including ergonomics and workplace safety while we also promote these through our website to make the staff aware of workplace health and safety risks and how to deal with them,’’ said Al Zaabi.

This latest Sehhati wellness programme has created a buzz amongst the staff members as is evident from their overwhelming response. A large number of staff members are participating and more are willing to join in as individual and teams to adopt a fit and healthy lifestyle, he said.

“This is very important for employees, not just for their own sake but for the sake of their families, as well as businesses and the community at large,’’ added Al Zaabi.
