This month had even more credibility as it was the first event in conjunction with the new event partner’s, Harvey Nichols Dubai.
The Mashreq Gold Cup consists of four events that will run throughout the season alongside the Mashreq Medal Championship at both Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and Emirates Golf Club.
The event proved popular yet again, boasting another full field of over 100 players.
BMW, again offered a BMW 3-Series as a Hole-in-One prize on the Par 3, 14th hole whilst Harvey Nichols provided an array of vouchers for all of the days winners.
Glory Xavier put in a superb performance and clinched her 1st victory of the series with a fantastic score of net 62. The win was a very proud one for Xavier and it would also see her make a considerable move up in the order of merit standings.
After being presented her prize Ms. Xavier commented, “It’s an honour to win this event and I would like to express my happiness and gratitude to be able to be part of it, also, to be part of such a great club. A big thank you has to go to all of the staff from the Creek and the sponsors for all of their dedication and hard work in making these events available to us. Everything came together in my game today and this is thanks to the continued support of my fellow players and my teaching professional. I would also like to thank my playing partners for their high levels of sportsmanship and etiquette.”
Kennon Rider also picked up his 1st win of the series as he fired a solid net 72 to take top spot in Men’s Division A. The runner-up spot for the division was taken by John Fellingham as he finished strongly with a net 73 to beat Jamal Saab on a better inward half.
A superb net 67 from Janish Khurana saw him clinch the Men’s Division B title by two shots over Russell Hill who was runner-up with a net 69. This month’s event marked the introduction of the Senior’s category. Dubai Creek Club Captain George Horan was the division’s first time winner as he fired a solid net 77. H. H. Choi was also among the winner’s as she carded a solid 1-over par net 72 to take the Ladies Division title.
Dino Varkey made up for four bogeys with the same number of birdies to finish level par and claim the overall gross prize. Junior member Montgomery Stapleton put in his best performance of the year so far to take the junior division with a superb net 66.
After conducting the prize presentation, Dubai Creek’s Head Professional Stephen Hubner commented, “It is fabulous to have yet another full field for this event. It is a clear indication that our members are enjoying the new order of merit format and that they appreciate the upgrades in terms of prizes and giveaways.
