Mashreq Medal Championship in association with BMW and Harvey Nichols Dubai launches at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club

United Arab Emirates: Monday, June 03 - 2013 @ 11:09

Despite the ever increasing summer heat the event boasted another full field of over 100 players for the third consecutive month. The stunning Dubai Creek course was as ever in great condition and this would set the stage for a fantastic day of golf.

Yves Aboukhaled was back in the winner’s circle as he picked up his first victory of the season with a 2 under-par net 69. After being presented his prize Mr. Aboukhaled commented; “It’s very good to be back and I’m happy with today’s win. I would like to thank my playing partners today and also the event sponsors and the staff at the creek for their hard work in hosting such a great series of events”.

Ashok Kumar and Anish Bhatia both finished with net 73′s in the Men’s A Division and so the winner was to be decided on a count back. In the end it was Kumar who had the slightly stronger finish to come out on top. In Men’s B Division, Nitin Kripalani made a net 74 to take top spot and his first victory in the series by just one shot over runner-up and another first time prize winner, Mark Hughes.

Harini White won the Ladies Divison by 5 shots with an impressive net 74. Meanwhile, Dubai Creek junior, Rayhan Thomas took the overall gross prize for his solid 4 over-par 75. The newly appointed Senior Division, now in its second month was won by Pritam Mirchandani as he managed a very respectable net 75. Rishi Nair posted another super score of net 66 to take another junior division title.

Birdies seemed to be few and far between with only a pair of ‘2′s club’ winners, Vanessa North and Anish Bhatia, whilst Vikrant Mehra and Patrick Morrow were successful in the Captains Raffle.

With the order of merit now at the halfway stage it is John Fellingham who leads with 361 points ahead of Lady Captain Maureen Platt on 294 and Praveen Kalia on 291 points. At the end of the season it is the leading 36 players at both Dubai Creek and Emirates Golf Club who will earn their place in the Grand Final in January.

After conducting the prize presentation, Dubai Creek’s Head Professional Stephen Hubner commented; “Our monthly medal series really has gone from strength to strength and the high volume of member participation is a clear indication that they are enjoying the much improved format. Offering great prizes and fancy cars as hole-in-one prizes plus all the little extras would simply not be possible without the help of our sponsors. Many thanks as always to Mashreq Bank, BMW, and Harvey Nichols Dubai for their continued support and we very much look forward to developing our relationship further to allow us to continue to improve what we offer our members.”
