Diggerland has three sites in the UK and this fourth site will open in Dubai on the 12th January 2005. The Diggerland in Dubai will be on the site of Global Village, one of the largest projects events in the Middle East. Global Village has outgrown its previous site near the centre of Dubai and re-opens on the 12th January 2005 on a purpose built site just outside the city center, within ‘Dubailand’, the ultimate leisure, entertainment and tourism destination in the region.
Hugh Edeleanu, the founder of Diggerland expressed his pleasure at this new Diggerland and commented: ‘The Diggerland concept has proved to be a huge success with families of all ages. This Diggerland in Dubai will now extend the opportunity of experiencing the thrills of driving real construction equipment to a much wider audience.’ Hugh also commented: ‘Driving the real JCBs and Dumpers is a dream come true for most children and as far as the adults are concerned the earthmovers are BIG boy’s toys! In addition to a great fun day out, Diggerland is also very educational for the children. They can experience using hydraulics and diesel engines and also master the art of driving as well as the use of excavator controls, both of which promote hand-eye co-ordination.’
Khalid Al Shafar, the Marketing Manager for The Global Village project in Dubai commented: ‘We are very pleased to have Diggerland joining The Global Village, especially as we now have a much larger site and the ability to accommodate such a large attraction. There is no doubt that the presence of Diggerland will bring a significant number of additional visitors to The Global Village and we very much look forward to providing such a large and popular attraction to all of our visitors.’
The Global Village this year will host over 45 pavilions and exhibitions from countries all around the world and provide a show case to their heritage, culture, architecture, arts and crafts as well as cuisine, merchandise and their unique lifestyle. There is also a large amphitheatre for concerts, shows and folk arts of every country and a large entertainment arcade and fairground and a variety of restaurants and cafes.
At the Diggerland in Dubai there will be a total of 67 machines and nearly 50 staff to supervise all of the diggers and dumpers. One of the most popular rides in the UK is the ‘Supertrack’ which is an all terrain vehicle based on a high-speed military snow cat. Visitors to Diggerland in Dubai will be able to ride in the Supertrack over sand dunes, in what is undoubtedly one of the most exciting rides at Diggerland.
Al Shafar said: ‘Within excess of 100,000 visitors a day to The Global Village on our 17.2 million sq. ft site, I am sure that Diggerland will be a very popular attraction. With Diggerland at The Global Village we will now be able to cater for an even wider variety and quantity of visitors and make sure that those visitors who come to Global Village have a great day out with a large variety of activities and entertainment.’
Naturally to drive the real diggers at Diggerland an age limit has to be imposed. Those aged 5 and above can drive the real JCBs and Dumpers on their own while those under 5 have to be accompanied! There are also height restrictions on some rides.
For the Diggerland in Dubai there will be no entry charge. Visitors will pay each time they drive or ride in a digger, by using tokens purchased on site. The opening hours of Diggerland and The Global Village are seven days a week, 4.00pm to midnight, with late opening till 1.00am on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
