The drainage and irrigation department of Dubai Municipality has embarked the implementation the sewerage system and rainwater drainage project for Al Quoz industrial areas 1,2,3,4 in line with the latest international standards at a cost of Dhs84m. The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2015.
The project comes in tune the vision and strategic directives of Dubai Municipality to maintain the global level in the field of providing sewerage and irrigation services, and as part of its projects for the year 2014 and strategy in the preservation of environment, public health and safety, by raising the proportion of areas connected to sewage networks in Dubai to 100% and reducing the proportion of sewage transported by tankers to 0%.
Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said, “The project includes the extension of sewage and stormwater drainage to areas of labor accommodation located in Al Quoz Industrial areas as it consists of stores, warehouses and a variety of industrial workshops, in addition to workers’ accommodations and some shops. The total area of the region covered by the project is 1,026 hectares and consists of 1424 plots including 306 workers’ accommodations.”
Lootah pointed out, “The aim of this project is to extend the sewage and stormwater drainage to Al Quoz industrial areas 1,2,3,4 with the aim at reducing costs to the owners at an average of Dhs1 to 4m a year. The average amount of wastewater expected is 43,500 cubic meters per day. After processing, the irrigation water quantity is expected to be 43,000 cubic meters. The capacity of the labor accommodation areas served by the project is 145,000 people.
“After the project completion, nearly 300 tanks of wastewater collection will be cancelled, which in turn will reduce wastewater squeezing trucks reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollution. 43,000 cubic meters of treated water will contribute to increase 614 hectares in the green areas of the emirate,” he added.
