Eng. Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of Waste Management Department said the survey to assess the satisfaction and get feedback regarding the ‘My City … My Environment’ campaign from the community was successfully completed and brought interesting results.
“The survey team conducted 100 face to face interviews with house owners and housemaids in three areas in which the initiative was implemented namely Mazhar 1, Mazhar 2 and Nad Al Hamr. 80% of the citizens in three areas expressed their satisfaction in the project. It was concluded that the main person who handles the waste in 97% of houses is the housemaid,” Saifaie said.
“According to 77% of the house owners believe that the campaign would help the community to change their habits related to the segregation of wastes. Almost 82% are satisfied in the number of collection of wastes from containers. Meanwhile, most of the people requested for bigger containers for waste collection,” he said.
As per housemaids, majority of the house owners supported and supervised the waste segregation process in separate two containers.
The mechanism of waste collection and the attitude of workers were highly appreciated by the beneficiaries of the initiative, while 33% of them suggested to supply bigger containers.
In terms of the customer satisfaction, Mazhar 1 comes first which achieved 91% of satisfaction followed by Nad Al Hamr (81%) and Mazhar 2 (70%).
The department recently honoured five winners and their housemaids in the waste segregation practice in accordance with the instructions given by the officials in three residential areas and thinking to implement the practice to the other parts of the emirate of Dubai inspired by the overwhelming support from the community.
