‘Based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Municipality has implemented a number of market projects in the emirate which is expected to be a big leap in the markets in the Gulf Arab region, sated Eng. Hussein Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
“These markets include Al Fahidi Market, Traditional Market, Truck Market and Pet Market,” Lootah said. “With regard to the bird market, based on proposals received by the assets management department on the establishment of a market for pet birds and animals, Dubai Municipality has established this market in line with international standards that consists of 80 shops for selling pet birds and animals along with pet’s food and accessories,”
“The pet market includes a hi-tech hotel for pets in tune with the best international practices with the aim at taking care of pets when their owners are away from the country. The hotel contains a clinic for the treatment of these animals according to the most advanced methods and practices,” he said.
New markets also include the fish market in Hamriya area, Deira.
“The municipality has conducted some surveys among public and customers which resulted in the adoption of a proposal to establish a market in the neighborhood called “Occupational Market in residential neighborhoods” that accommodates workers and technicians in all areas of work that could be needed by the public in their daily life,” he added.
Mr. Khalifa Hareb, director of assets management department said: initially, a hyper market has been opened in Fahidi market with parking lots and about 57 stores and the official opening is expected in September. The market includes about 145 shops in addition to restaurants, cafeterias, jewelries and foreign exchange. Most of the shops are rented out through tender bids.
“The traditional market has been distributed on the basis of ancient and modern traditional occupations handled by the people of UAE such as Arabian Perfumeries, jalabiyas, candy and some heritage things with the participation of Architectural Heritage Society. Approximately 50 shops were distributed for the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises. The opening of the market will be in few days to come,” Hareb said.
“The truck market will accommodate nearly 88 shops for the sale of a large heavy-duty trucks. It has been coordinated with all heavy vehicle dealers in Dubai to build this market and a market study was conducted regarding all the requirements of the market which will be opened at the end of this year,” he said.
“Considering the lack of enough space and the growing demand for fish, vegetables and fruits, the municipality is establishing the fish and vegetable market in Hamriyah replacing the old market. The market includes all relevant services such as the sale of fish, vegetables, fruits and related activities. There would be a large duck to enter the boats and cruisers loaded with fish,” he added.
“All these markets are expected to give a big leap in the economic growth of the emirate and add several new tourist attractions in the city of Dubai that always lives in the future,” he hoped.
