Planning & studies section at Dubai Municipality environment department issued 311 environment permits to establishments and companies working in industrial sector during last year.
It was informed by Eng. Hind Mahmood Ahmed, acting head of the section.
According to her, these projects include industrial enterprises, infra-structure development, service projects, telecommunications, and power transmission.
“These activities come within the frame work to ensure sustainable development in the emirate as well as are performed to fulfil Dubai Municipality’s vision, ‘creating an excellent city that provides the essence of success and comfort of living,” she said.
“Dubai Municipality gives special focus on the environment while framing its policies and implementing its projects given the vibrant dynamics of development Dubai witnesses these days,” she said.
“Even though the real estate, industry and other businesses are booming high pitch in Dubai, the investors see the environment of the emirate is highly good, a positive thing which can be attributed to the policies of wise the leadership of Dubai and other competent authorities including the civic body,” she continued.
She said, when application for starting a certain project is received, experts at planning& studies section would carry out in depth study on the possible effects on the environment. If it found to be harming the environment during the construction or operation, civic body won’t allow the project to move forward.
According to her, this year, the number of permitted projects have risen by 18% from 256, the figure registered in 2012.
She also stressed the need to increase recycle projects in order to reduce the negative impacts of the advancement and development on the environment.
She added saying that the culture of recycle is one of the components for the efforts to achieve sustainability in development and that Dubai Municipality is giving high importance to this sector.
According to the figures at the section, Dubai Municipality has issued 129 NOCs with regards to various projects to recycle waste materials, in 2013.
