After the success of the Digital Style Lab at Harvey Nichols in Dubai, that featured the wining artworks of The Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award 2013, another collaboration between The Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award and Harvey Nichols occur by letting 4 winners of The Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award design the window display of Harvey Nichols that will last till the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

This collaboration between The Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award and Harvey Nichols Dubai reflects the commitment of both organisations to support the continued growth of the artistic and cultural scene in the UAE, by creating new outlets for young emerging talents to showcase their work to the public.

Commenting on this occasion, Mona Bin Kalli, Director of The Cultural Office of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said: “The collaboration between The Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award and Harvey Nichols reflects the vision of our patron and founder, Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment towards empowering and supporting the movement of arts and culture in the United Arab Emirates by providing them opportunities of different projects and initiatives that are recognized locally and globally”.

She added, “I would like to sincerely thank Harvey Nichols for their collaboration and continuous support that adds up to the success of this award”.

The four winners of The Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award 2013 Sara Al Agroobi, Bahar Al Bahar, Nada Abu Shakra and Tayma Bittard have designed 4 windows display of Harvey Nichols that will last the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

First launched in 2006, The Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award is an annual fine arts competition which aims to encourage, recognize and promote emerging artists from the UAE and is especially popular amongst university students majoring in Art, Design and Multimedia. Throughout the past years the award had many achievements within the artistic community, where an enormous number of artists have graduated from different artistic aspects, and gained prominence within the artistic community culturally, globally and locally.

Artists and Participating Art Works:

Sara Al Agroobi – Palindrome Typological Installation:

Inspired by an Arabic palindrome, typographic elements undulate across the wall surface. Emerging from and receding within a plane of physical materiality, the wall signifies existence without beginning nor end, infinite.

Nada Abu Shakra – Protruding Purity

The element water is the sign of purity. The inspiration behind my window display design is dripping water drops and the ripples they create in a water pond as they fall. The projecting units resemble the after effect of the dripping drop due to the water’s inter-molecular forces of attraction.

Bahar Al Bahar – Perception Series – #4

The celebration of Ramadan spans an entire month, making it stand out amongst other occasions that usually occur for a shorter span of time. The notion of a month interval was used to construct a geometric formal system, which abstracts the periodical event while replacing its time perception into a visual and a physical representation of what a month could look like – had it been a physical object.

Tayma Bittard – Transcendence

The modest figure is broken down into pieces that revolve to its center axis. She is a visual representation of two components: the first is time, which is represented with the timely rotation of the pieces; some ahead, some behind. The second is the destruction of the material body to metaphysical trance
