Emirates Classification Society (TASNEEF) signed a contract with Drydocks World that stipulates; Tasneef will provide the classification and maritime surveying services to Drydocks fleet which is composed of approximately 11 ships including marine excavator. The contract was signed in the presence of His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World and CEO of Tasneef Eng. Rashed Al Hebsi, in addition to Tasneef Chief Operations Officer Eng. Omar Abu Omar, and Eng. Ali El Sweedy V.P. for Business Development and Commercial Affairs at Drydocks World.
So far, Three ships have been thoroughly surveyed which are (Shindagha-5, Umm Suqeem & Zabeel-4), as for the rest of the fleet, it is scheduled to be subject to classification and surveying after confirming that it complies with all the classification rules, International regulations and UAE flag statutory requirements.
In this occasion, His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World his absolute appreciation and enthusiasm for signing this contract as it reflects various positive outcomes for both parties and opens new venues for future collaboration. In addition to that he voiced his complete trust and confidence in the abilities and potential of Tasneef to be a top-notch classification service provider that can rise to meet global standards in the field of maritime classification which will in turn enhance the global prestigious reputation of both parties in the maritime industry as it represents an enormous step in the direction of achieving the strategic goals of Drydocks World towards customer-centered results.
Moreover, Buamim emphasized that signing this contract signifies a practical embodiment of the strategy currently followed by Drydocks World which intends to provide premium services to the maritime sector as part of its customer-centered approach. Consequently, Drydocks World conforms to the internationally accredited system of quality control management in all of its activities and services and has won global awards in the field of quality control which contributes to increasing its customer base both regionally and globally.
Finally, Buamim concluded saying “This contract allows ship owners to receive the national classification which helps in raising the UAE flag high above, and increasing the carrying capacity of the ships contributing to enhancing the services in the national maritime sector, simultaneously, it ensures the success of Emirates Classification Society (TASNEEF) in becoming one of the world’s most prominent classification societies through providing high quality services”.

In this context, Eng. Rashed Al Hebsi, CEO of Tasneef commented saying “We deeply appreciate the Drydocks World’s confidence in our abilities and potential, and therefore we will do our best to maintain this mutual trust to ensure a successful collaboration”. Al Hebsi emphasized that Tasneef will provide the fleet with high quality services including classification, surveying and technical consulting. In addition to, research and development services provided by experienced and high-qualified national and foreign personnel. He added “We will issue the compulsory certificates that conform to international standards required to guarantee the safety of the ship’s body and engine, the safety of the crew on board and the maritime environment as a whole, according to SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) and MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships).
The Localization of UAE Caliber in the Maritime Sector
It is surely noteworthy to see that Tasneef was able during a short time to be one of the first and most prominent classification societies in the country and the region as a whole. Currently, it is fully capable of providing classification services to all the companies in the maritime sector in addition to the localization of the UAE caliber in the different maritime specializations in the field. Tasneef is the first national classification society that aims at improving the efficiency and specifications of vessels carrying the Emirati national flag, and guaranteeing the compliance of all national companies with its regulations, which then opens new horizons for Emirati engineers to work in the maritime sector.
Today, Tasneef is celebrating the qualification of the first UAE citizen in the field of maritime classification, Eng. Hussain Alali, who commented in this occasion saying “I will exert tremendous effort to keep up with the accelerating growth of Tasneef and further develop the UAE maritime sector”, and he noted that he already joined the team supervising the classification operations for the fleet and providing the different classification, inspection and surveying services; he added saying “all these stages will be executed in accordance with the technical classification regulations, and the classification standards of the IMO (International Maritime Organization) and the regulations of the UAE maritime flag”.
Eng. Alali noted that he joined Tasneef back in 2012 as a trainee surveyor, and after he successfully passed all the necessary exams, workshops and requirements, he got certified as an accredited surveyor by the IMO; in addition to his experience in the electronics of different military and commercial ships.
In this perspective, Al Hebsi added saying “We can’t move forward and accomplish anything without a national, qualified caliber who is experienced in maritime classification for different ships. We, at Tasneef, are determined to entice and encourage the UAE youth, and provide them with field experience in the different technical, electrical and maritime architectural specializations, both in the country and abroad, to be able to supply the local market and maritime industry with nationally grown expertise”.
