Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, announced that it has begun preparations to host the second edition of the Dubai Maritime Week which will take place in November 2014. Held once every two years, the first-of-its-kind event in Dubai serves as part of DMCA’s commitment to position the emirate amongst the world’s leading international exhibition hubs.

Following the successful inaugural edition of the Dubai Maritime Week in 2012, DMCA plans to expand the agenda of the next edition to include Dubai Maritime Forum, the Seatrade Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards, the Seatrade Middle East Maritime Exhibition, the Seatrade Middle East Money and Ships Conference, and the Ship-Recycling Conference. It will also feature a series of awareness programs, technical and cultural events, and interactive workshops to celebrate Dubai’s rich maritime heritage.

Organized by DMCA in cooperation with Seatrade Middle East, Dubai Maritime Week 2014 is expected to gather high-profile government officials, industry professionals, regional and international experts, and ship owners and operators from the UAE and the region to discuss latest developments and explore new prospects to raise the bar on maritime competitiveness in Dubai.

Amer Ali, Executive Director, Dubai Maritime City Authority, said, “The success of the first edition of Dubai Maritime Week reflects DMCA’s strategic role of promoting Dubai’s pivotal position as a regional and an international maritime hub. Focused on the assets of modernization and inclusiveness, the upcoming edition will showcase high-level interactive activities to create communication channels among local government entities, regional and international experts, suppliers, economists, analytics, and maritime financiers to encourage exchange of best practices and the latest trends to promote sustainable development across Dubai’s maritime industry.”

“Dubai has built a strong reputation as one of the leading investment, business and tourist destinations in the world through its integrated competences and advanced infrastructure. Today, the emirate is taking proactive steps to reinforce its footprint on the international maritime landscape, guided by the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,” Ali added.

“Last year, we succeeded in emphasizing our commitment to support the wise vision of the leadership to promote Dubai’s position as a global city for business events by hosting the first edition of the Dubai Maritime Week. We will continue the march towards excellence with the upcoming edition by developing an integrated and impactful agenda. In cooperation with our strategic partners which include local government bodies, we will serve our common aspiration of upholding Dubai’s position locally, regionally and globally,” Ali concluded.

Dubai Maritime Week 2012 was co-organized by Seatrade and supported by Dubai Municipality, Dubai Customs, National Transport Authority, DP World, and Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. It introduced several key activities such as the Seatrade Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards, the Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2012, the Maritime Places of Refuge and Salvage Forum, and the Dubai Creek Conference along with other art and cultural programs to celebrate UAE’s rich maritime heritage.
