Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, has announced the launch of its first ever maritime solution smartphone application during its participation at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show 2014 (DIBS 2014). The new app, which falls in line with the Smart Government initiative of the country’s wise leadership, will enable DMCA to offer high-level, round-the-clock services to its customers in a faster and efficient manner.
Amer Ali, Executive Director, DMCA, explained the launch of the new mobile app serves as a key addition to the Authority’s continuing move towards establishing solid foundations aimed at promoting the local maritime industry on a par with the fast-emerging developments at all levels.
“This step comes in line with efforts aiming to achieve smart government goals. We are glad to participate once again at the Dubai International Boat Show, which offers the industry a high-level interactive platform to discuss timely and strategic maritime issues with key industry leaders, decision makers, businessmen and water sports enthusiasts. The event also serves as an effective tool in raising awareness on maintaining maritime safety and how to prevent human, physical and environmental risks when driving recreational marine crafts,” said Ali.
DMCA’s maritime solution smartphone app offers users an introductory and informative platform to access essential details about the authority and the marine licensing services that they offer, which includes maritime commercial licensing, marine craft crew licensing and the licensing of recreational, commercial, sports, tourism and traditional marine crafts that operate within Dubai’s territorial waters.
A large section of DMCA’s pavilion at the event has been designed to introduce visitors and professionals to all the features of the new app, which can be used across both Android powered and iOS powered smartphone devices.
Mahmoud Ewidah, Senior IT Manager, DMCA, said, “This new app offers users a variety of features like ‘My Marina,’ a section that shows directions and marine locations; ‘DMCA Safety,’ which provides information on maritime safety measures and marine crafts driving tests; ‘Maps,’ shows restricted areas, locations where jet ski use is allowed and coastline resting areas and the ‘Dubai Coast Today’ section, which showcases the traffic of marine vessels in the Emirate’s waters. It also enables users to look into DMCA’s latest news and photo gallery.”
The DMCA’s pavilion at DIBS 2014 has been seeing wide response from trade visitors and water sports enthusiasts who are interested in finding out about the latest developments in the authority’s maritime licensing services and efforts to promote maritime safety measures—particularly across recreational yachts, boats and marine vessels. The DMCA is committed to regularly launch initiatives that are aimed at implementing the highest standards of maritime safety and promoting Dubai’s competitiveness amongst regional and international maritime industries. In addition to this, the authority also offers key infrastructure that have been designed to raise the bar on the local maritime sector–based on the core values of excellence, innovation, cooperation and marine environment conservation.
