They were joined by the Media Attaché of the Consulate of Sudan in Dubai, and the aim was to review the media functions and procedures. Meetings were held with several officials from Jafza who later on joined the delegation in a tour of the Port and Free Zone in Jebel Ali.

A presentation was given by Dr. Mohammed Al Banna, the Regional Manager for Asia-Pacific in Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority, where he gave a brief explanation about the work processes in the Free Zone and outlining its administrations, marketing and media departments.

He explained that the Jebel Ali Free Zone, which was established in 1985 has now grown to incorporate over 3,500 companies from over 100 nations and boasts a profound international reputation. He mentioned that the decision to accept a company in the Free Zone is not only solely based on the trade advantages that can be gained from acquiring a new company, but also on other factors. The most important is the company’s ability to contribute an added value to the national economy.

He also remarked on the Jebel Ali Free Zone having expanded its area to over 100 square kilometers due to the large demand of international companies wishing to establish a regional office. The current situation reveals that approximately 74% of Free Zone companies are engaged in trade activities, while 22% are industrial and the remaining 4% are concerned in services.

Dr. Al Banna also explained that currently about 12 companies of Sudanese origin are head-qartered in the Jafza, and that the Authority is aspiring to attract Arab capitalists and businessmen to increase the number of Arab companies there.

On behalf of the visiting delegates, Obaid Ahmed the Assistant Media Attaché for the Consulate of Sudan in Dubai, stated that the expansive development achieved by the United Arab Emirates as a whole and by Dubai in particular, has internationally captivated everyone’s attention. “It was based on this commendable progress that the decision was made by the Sudanese media delegation to visit Dubai on a mission to observe and learn from one of the esteemed media corporations in the emirate of Dubai.
