Electronic Health Solutions (EHS) announced the launch of Hakeem Lab in the Faculty of Medicine at the Hashemite University (HU) in Zarqa, enabling students to learn how to use electronic medical records. The announcement was made on Sunday, August 10, during a press conference hosted at the University and attended by EHS CEO Eng. Rami Adwan, HU Vice President Prof. Ali Al Karmi, and a group of Jordanian media representatives.

The launch of the Hakeem Lab falls under EHS’ memorandum of understanding with HU, signed two years ago. By virtue of the agreement, EHS also supports HU students with their graduation projects, provides internship opportunities at the Company, and offers them access to numerous HU and EHS events.

Furthermore, and for the second consecutive year, EHS is training Biotechnology Engineering students in the use of its ‘Hakeem’ program, the first national e-health initiative in Jordan. Launched in October 2009 under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, ‘Hakeem’ aims to enhance patient information management, trigger a paradigm shift in the healthcare sector, raise service standards to international levels, boost cost efficiency, and streamline operational flow. The program utilizes the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), an enterprise-wide information system employed throughout the United States Department of Veterans Affairs’ medical system.

Under the MoU, several HU Biotechnology Engineering students have already received training at EHS, as well as guidance on their graduation projects. In addition, EHS has organized a number of awareness seminars introducing its various services and programs, and is currently working with HU to incorporate ‘Hakeem’ into the University’s nursing and medical curricula.

“This partnership falls under our corporate responsibility strategy and goes hand in hand with our vision to support and develop the healthcare sector in Jordan,” said Adwan. “We believe that the starting point for achieving this vision is educating medical students on the importance of leveraging the latest international medical technologies across the Kingdoms’ healthcare institutions,” he added.

In turn, Al Karmi thanked EHS for its continued support of Jordan’s healthcare sector as a whole, and HU’s students in particular. He added that the University’s partnership with EHS has been invaluable in preparing students for the job market and qualifying them to contribute to the development of healthcare services in Jordan.
