GlassPoint Solar, the leader in solar enhanced oil recovery (EOR), announced the appointment of Tarik Hussain as Director of Oman Projects based in Muscat. Mr. Hussain brings a decade of engineering and project management experience in Oman, delivering some of the largest industrial and infrastructure projects in the country.
“GlassPoint’s project with Petroleum Development Oman has been operating successfully in the Oman interior for more than a year. It demonstrates that solar can reliably produce steam for thermal recovery projects, saving valuable gas resources,” said Mr. Hussain.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the GlassPoint team at such a pivotal time in the company’s growth, and I look forward to partnering with our customers in Oman to bring solar enhanced oil recovery to scale.”
Most recently, Mr. Hussain served as project manager for WorleyParsons on the US$24 billion BP Khazzan project, the largest new upstream project in the Sultanate. He oversaw the design, procurement and construction of the project’s early infrastructure work and the front-end engineering design of the gas export and condensate pipeline.
Prior to joining WorleyParsons, Mr. Hussain was the country director and location manager for Meinhardt Engineering Consultants, where he expanded the global business to Oman and founded the Muscat office. He managed an international team of 600 employees across four locations and oversaw a $2.6 billion project portfolio, including the MEP engineering and design of the new Muscat International Airport Main Terminal. He also held several senior management roles at WS Atkins International, delivering a diverse range of projects including EPC contracts for the Sohar Refinery and Aromatics Plant.
“Tarik’s track record in designing and constructing large-scale industrial projects in Oman is hard to match,” said Ben Bierman, Chief Operating Officer at GlassPoint. “His in-country knowledge and project management experience will be instrumental in delivering future GlassPoint projects safely, on schedule and on budget.”
GlassPoint’s solar EOR project with Petroleum Development Oman at Amal West recently completed its first year of operations exceeding production targets and with zero lost time injuries. This project is serving as an operational baseline for future large-scale projects in Oman and throughout the Gulf region.
