Samsung launches Canvas:Collective – a design project supporting artists in the region

Samsung’s Canvas:Collective is a unique design project that will help discover talented artists in the region and provide them a platform to showcase their skills. Utilizing the Samsung GALAXY Note product range, which includes Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1; artists will be given an opportunity to create exclusive T-shirt designs that will support the cause of the UAE based charity, Social Bandage. Mohammed Saeed Harib, creator and producer of FREEJ, was announced as the creative ambassador for the project.

Commenting on the launch of the Canvas:Collective project, Haris Munif, Head of Product Marketing at Samsung Gulf Electronics’ Telecommunications Group said, “The Canvas:Collective project will not only help us discover some of the best talent in the region, but also give us an opportunity to give back to the community. We are very excited to have Mohammed Saeed Harib on-board with us to lead this project as he brings with him years of experience, distinct style of creativity and invaluable expertise”

Mohammed Saeed Harib said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be working with Samsung as a partner for the Canvas:Collective campaign. By partnering with Samsung I have had the opportunity to use its incredible Note series of devices to help me with the T-shirt designs that will be sold to raise money for Social Bandage. As an advocate for supporting the development of creativity in the local community, Samsung is the perfect company to partner with for this unique initiative.”

The project will be carried out in two phases. As part of the first phase, Mohammed Saeed Harib and Samsung have pre-selected seven talented artists from the region for the project. Under the mentorship of Mohammed Saeed Harib, these artists will help create unique t-shirt designs using the Samsung Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1.

The second phase will include a consumer competition that will provide the regional community an opportunity to participate in the project as well. Out of all the consumer entries, two will be selected by Mohammed Saeed Harib and will be part of the limited t-shirt collection.

The limited edition t-shirt collection will be available for sale on the Social Bandage website (socialbandage.org/store.aspx) from January 22. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to support Social Bandage’s cause to provide wheelchairs for children in Kenya to go to school.

The Canvas:Collective project will run from January 15 – 20 Feb 2013. Consumers are invited to submit their creative t-shirt designs either through the project microsite (samsungcanvas.com) or Samsung’s stands at The Dubai Mall and Jumeirah Beach Residence.

The roadshow will be taking place at the waterfront in The Dubai Mall from January 24 – 26 and January 31 – February 2. The road show at Jumeirah Beach Residence will be taking place from January 28 – February 16.
