Organised by Switzerland Tourism, the roadshow will enable GCC travel trade management, specialist media and alliance partners to meet with Swiss destination specialists, hoteliers and airline representatives.
Senior management predict that the roadshow will help all parties grow business levels, as the delegation focuses on established attractions and new leisure developments in the country.
According to Federico Sommaruga, director of Switzerland Tourism for the GCC, India and Russia, the aim of the roadshow is to reinforce the quality aspects of the tourism product in Switzerland, as well as the natural attractions of the mountains and lakes.
“With more than 70,000 visitors from the GCC annually, the region represents the 10th best source market for Switzerland after Europe, the US and Japan,” he said.
“Daily expenditure is among the highest in the world, and with packages catering for families, wellness and education, we can cater to all the major requirements of this distinct market.”
While tourist numbers have risen steadily over the past decade, the high exchange rate has steadied growth and this latest marketing initiative is aimed at reintroducing Switzerland as an ideal summer holiday venue and boosting arrivals into double figures again.
“Many GCC residents have turned east for their vacations during the past couple of years, but we think this year it will be the turn of Europe again. Switzerland is well placed to capitalise on this revived interest given its wealth of attractions in a relatively small area,” said Sommaruga.
“We have three specialised tourist routes, the best railways in the world, a healthy environment and plenty of spas, festivals for topics as varied as jazz, film and teddy bears, plus quality shopping and unparalleled scenery.”
Taking part in the roadshow are representatives from Switzerland Tourism; Swiss International Airlines; Rail Europe-Swiss Travel System; Crans Montana; Geneva; InterContinental Zurich; Interlaken Tourism; Jungfraujoch; Kulm Hotel St Mortiz; Lausanne Palace & Spa; Lausanne Tourism; Le Mirador Kempinski; Lucerne; Manotel Hotels of Geneva; Montreux-Vevey; Movenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva; Raffles Montreux Palace; St Mortiz; Zermatt Matterhorn and Zurich Downtown.
