Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a circular to country managers of all airlines operating to the country, including the national carrier Qatar Airways, to entirely relocate to the new Hamad International Airport (HIA) from 9am on May 27, Gulf Times has reported. Earlier, 10 airlines, including budget carriers, were instructed by CAA to move operations to HIA from 11am on April 30. The new airport will have an initial capacity of 24 million passengers a year, more than doubling to around 50 million by the time it is fully operational beyond 2015. HIA will be able to handle 8,700 passengers per hour and up to 19,500 bags an hour.
