In line with its ongoing support and commitment towards Emiratization in the banking sector, Commercial Bank International (CBI) announced the graduation of a new batch of its National Development Program, AJYAL. The announcement was made at a special graduation ceremony held at Intercontinental Festival City, under the patronage of the Bank’s Chairman, H.E. Mohammad Sultan Al Qadi.
The ceremony honored 19 new graduates who successfully completed their training period to start their career with the Bank. The event also celebrated 13 top performers who previously graduated from the same program and effectively advanced their profession at CBI.
CBI’s National Development Program exposes participants to the diverse business functions of the bank and helps them understand where their key strengths lie, while developing their professional skills. The six-month program has become a vital channel for the development of local human workforce, offering young university graduates the opportunity to acquire real-life and hands-on experience across a variety of banking functions. Training and mentoring are provided to fast track participants’ placement and career development in suitable posts and departments across the Bank and to ensure they are well-prepared and equipped to assume their new roles.
H.E. Mohammad Sultan Al Qadi, Chairman of CBI, expressed the Board’s appreciation and endorsement of the Program: “We strongly believe that our success depends to a great extent on the quality and high caliber of our human capital. Building local National talent in the fast growing financial services industry has always been a key strategic priority for CBI. We will continue to serve our nation by keeping it our main objective to further strengthen and empower our national human resources through strong training and development platforms and the wealth of career opportunities that CBI offers.”
“We believe CBI is a great place for young Emiratis to embark on a career in financial services and can offer them the level of support and expertise needed to help them every step of the way and to prepare them to be the leaders of the Bank and the industry in the future,” added Al Qadi.
CBI maintains a 35% Emiratization ratio with plans to grow this percentage to 40% by the end of 2014. Commenting on the Bank’s Emiratization strategy, Kris Babicci, CBI’s Chief Executive Officer, stated: “CBI has taken major steps to enhance its Emiratization scheme in line with national development objectives defined by the vision of the UAE Leadership. Emiratization is a key priority for us as we continue to attract, train, and mentor UAE national talents to join our ranks. With the right people on board, along with the right training and support, we aim to be a leading bank in the development and empowerment of national human resources and to be recognized as the employer of choice for Emiratis.”
Started in 2007, CBI’s National Development Program has been instrumental in achieving the Bank’s Emiratization strategy, as stated by Zainab Noureddini, CBI’s Head of Human Resources: “The 19 newly-graduated Emiratis from local and international universities who have joined the program have obtained a deeper knowledge of the finance and banking sector and have acquired the skills they need to succeed in their future careers. A total of 166 graduates have now enrolled and graduated from our National Development Program scheme to date, with many of them having evolved and grown their career across the Bank. We will continue to invest in this initiative, which is mutually beneficial for both the bank and our local community.”
In addition to its National Development program ‘AJYAL’, CBI has developed diverse initiatives to support the recruitment and development of UAE Nationals through tailored programs and namely CBI’s prominent Students Sponsorship Scheme, ‘Mustaqbal’.
