Deutsche Bank’s Middle East Foundation announced its partnership with Art for All through supporting a stage show at four schools for kids with special needs in the United Arab Emirates.
The production, called Sinbad and the Monster, is a new show by the Ashtar Theatre – a Palestinian theater company – and has never before been staged in the UAE. Performed in Arabic language, it is an environmental play for children that tells the story of Sinbad the adventurer. After losing his ship in the sea Sinbad arrives at a polluted island, where air, land and water are all contaminated and littered with waste. Sinbad starts his journey to save the island and its people from the hideous monster spoiling the island.
The event will allow for many of the children with special needs to enjoy the experience of contemporary Arabic theatre for the first time in their lives. It will be shown at Al Noor Training Center for Children with Special Needs, Rashid Centre for the Disabled, The Special Needs Centre and Dubai Autistic Centre.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Philippe Vollot, Chairman of Deutsche Bank’s Middle East Foundation, said: “It gives us great pleasure to support this wonderful play. We are delighted and proud to be able to offer these special kids the chance to enjoy a theatrical experience in their own schools. With our Middle East Foundation we continue to bring our unparalleled global commitment to the communities where we live and operate in.”
Rania Ashur, Founder & CEO Art for All FZC, said: “Sinbad and The Monster is a new production for children that deals with the environment and addresses the problems of pollution. As the event is taking place at the schools, we will reach more students and solve the issue of transportation. Through this generous support from Deutsche Bank’s Middle East Foundation, we hope to make a difference in the lives of these special kids.”
SINBAD AND THE MONSTER is Part of the Abu Dhabi Festival (ADMAF). The Arabic play will tour schools and theatres throughout the UAE during March 2014, visiting Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Fujeirah, RAK, Ajman and Dubai.
