ACME launches first Pallet Mole facility in the UAE

United Arab Emirates: Sunday, January 17 - 2010 @ 10:30

Designed and installed by ACME, the Pallet Mole system sets new standards in floor space utilization and operator productivity.

The revolutionary system combines the density of drive in racking with the benefits of flow racking and automation. The Pallet Mole system uses intelligent self-propelled shuttle units to handle pallets within the storage system. The shuttle runs on rails custom developed by ACME, which passes under each pallet location on each level of the storage system. Unlike other storage system layouts, which require multiple access aisles, the Pallet Mole system only requires aisles for pallet entry and retrieval, making them space efficient. The layout can be designed to go up to 60 pallets deep.

The system is touted to have a few distinct advantages over conventional storage solutions.

Using wireless remote controlled shuttles, the system requires fewer man-hours to operate than other high-density systems. Operators move pallets to and from the storage systems while the shuttle works independently to store and retrieve products within.

Since the automated shuttle does the interior deposit and retrieve functions, the system greatly reduces the chances of damage to the product, to the rack and to forklift equipment.

It also provides much greater flexibility than drive-in systems by having the ability to store one SKU per lane – not per bay – giving a vastly increased SKU count capacity over the same area.

The Pallet Mole unit uses an electro-mechanical lifting mechanism that is suitable for use within cold stores as well as food product warehouses.

The Pallet Mole system enables Jaleel Traders to pick and load a 40’ container within 30 minutes.

“The Pallet Mole system developed by our South African partners, Storage Management Systems is an ideal cost effective solution for customers who require to operate high density multi-SKU logistics facilities like cold stores and food distribution hubs”

says Navin Narayan, director of ACME Group.
