ADGAS honours Earth Hour campaign

United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, March 22 - 2011 @ 15:33

ADGAS contribution was in coordination with the Emirates Wildlife Society and the World Wildlife Fund (EWS-WWF), within a nation-wide campaign.

A circular issued by ADGAS CEO, Mr. Fahim Kazim, urged employees to actively participate in this global campaign, even in their homes and with their families. ADGAS switched off all lights and electrical equipment on the said hour.

“As you will appreciate, we have a stake in the future of our planet, and ADGAS believes that we have a responsibility to operate in a responsible manner and in ways that will minimize the impact on the environment. This symbolic collective action by us will clearly demonstrate our commitment towards the protection of environment,” the CEO concluded.

ADGAS Abu Dhabi HSE Committee called on all employees to show their support and to “go beyond the hour.” A circular issued by Mr. Salem Al Ameri, HSE Committee Chairman, urged employees and their families to take part in the Public Event hosted by EWS-WWF in association with the Abu Dhabi Municipality on Abu Dhabi Corniche on March 26, 2011.

Celebrating the global campaign, ADGAS organized a photography competition in conjunction with Wednesday Photography Group, to encourage wide public involvement in the campaign.

The competition is one of the ways in which ADGAS supports this campaign, by involving amateur photographers in this event to take photographs showing the commitments those in Abu Dhabi made to Earth Hour 2011.

Consisting of three main categories and a fourth category for participants under 18, the competition aims to cover aspects of Abu Dhabi’s compliance with the campaign through blackout in its buildings and landmarks, and those organizations or bodies that go beyond that specific hour to show more concern about the environment, and finally how people individually react, participate and celebrate the event.

Participants can submit their creative photos before April 17, 2011. The prizes will be announced in a special ceremony organized by ADGAS in May, 2011.
