The aim of this campaign is reducing the consumption of paper in the Company’s premises and encouraging employees, other organizations and the general public to do the same.
Marked on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, the event requires ADGAS employees in all locations to refrain from printing out any document unless extremely necessary and urgent, encouraging them to “think before they print” throughout the year.
A circular issued by ADGAS CEO, Mr. Fahim Kazim, said, “We in ADGAS believe that, together, we have a responsibility to operate our businesses in a responsible manner and in ways that do not have serious impact on the environment. By taking part in this event, we will demonstrate our commitment to actions that benefit the planet and will help find solutions to environmental challenges.
ADGAS employees and their families and children were involved in this occasion by several activities that encourage the rationalization of paper consumption and spread environmental awareness.
ADGAS was able to remarkably reduce its consumption of paper by 81% over the past five years. In 2007, the Company’s paper consumption stood at 7,927 kg. This was reduced to 6,720 kg in 2008, to 3,541 kg in 2009, to 1,624 in 2010 and to 1,476 in 2011.
Paper pulp is made of wood, and the paper industry depends on logging, which directly affects our environment and accelerates climate change.
The Paperless Day initiative was first suggested and launched in 2008 by ADGAS, in collaboration with the Environment Agency. In the following years, it gained momentum as scores of private and government organizations joined the campaign, which was later proposed for the UN competent organizations for global adoption.
