This region, UAE in particular, is not immune against such threats. The latest Internet Security Threat Report for the first half of 2003, prepared by global e-security giant Symantec, classified the UAE as fourth in the list of countries facing maximum Internet attacks in terms of per capita Internet attacks for countries with a base of 100,000 to 1 million internet connections.
To address this vital issue, Advanced Business Systems (ABS) FZ LLC, is organizing an e-security seminar for IT managers at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel in Dubai on December 17, 2004. The seminar: “Practical Steps for Protecting your IT Assets” would discuss vital topics for all IT managers while focusing on security policies in companies, general evaluation of security devices, security response procedures, conducting Risk assessments in addition to implementing effective steps to protect valuable data.
Two renowned experts from India and Scotland Yard would address the seminar and dwell into all aspects of e-security and security certification to familiarize participants with the issues involved in developing an e-secure environment.
An internationally recognized expert from the renowned UK-based T&D Consultants would provide a valuable insight into the globally accepted BS 7799 certification issued by the British Standard Institute (BSI), which assists organizations in data protection. Intended as a common basis for developing organizational security standards and effective security management practice, BS 7799 specifies requirements for establishing, implementing and documenting Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) and security controls.
The UK based consultant will cover presentations on `Information Security Standards: Applicability and Usage’, and `Sample Company Walk-through on Security Plan’. The objective of this presentation will be to help participants understand the intricacies of security standards. Just like Quality certifications improve the image of companies, security certifications help improve the image of companies as a safer environment for their clients.
The managing director of iSec Services Pvt. Ltd. (Securing the Insecure), a leading specialist e-security firm in India, will cover all relevant aspects of e-security and data protection through detailed presentations on `Securing An Enterprise: Roadmap To Security’, `Risk Assessment And Management Methodology: A Practical Approach’, `Information Security Devices: Overview of Information Security Products’. He will provide indispensable practical guidelines on applicability and usage of information security standards. He would also present a case study in the form of a walk-through on the security plan of a sample company.
“The seminar is designed to help companies improve their chances of securing valuable data assets. We will be showing how to perform risk assessment based on the state of their IT network,” said Mr. Ashok Sharma, CEO of ABS. “Following that, we will explain the technologies, processes and training issues related to data security and disaster recovery. Participants will get an overview of IT security standards for Vulnerability Assessments, Penetration Testing, Security Audit, Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Plan, Computer Forensics as well as User Training,” Mr Sharma added. “Through this seminar, we invite IT managers of mid-sized to large companies. Instead of waiting for a disaster to happen, IT managers can take proactive steps to avoid unwanted people looking at confidential data, besides making a plan to recover from disasters beyond their control” he added.
“We are sure that participants will leave the seminar with at least a few concrete steps to take, in order to make their data assets safer” said Mr. Madhukar Chaturvedi – President, Advanced Business Solutions.
