Al Bannai Group and Nokia launch ‘Service City’ in the Middle East

United Arab Emirates: Monday, December 01 - 2003 @ 15:31

The Middle East is one of Nokia’s top markets worldwide and the project is seen as further evidence of the Emirates’ growing importance as a regional hub for the mobile phone industry.

Located in Al Rashidiya near Dubai International Airport, ‘Service City’ spans 25,000 square feet and employs over 100 qualified and experienced staff. Responsible for specialized maintenance across 11 Middle East countries – Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Pakistan, Iran, Jordan, Syria and Yemen – the centre follows Nokia’s global standards and is equipped with the latest high-tech machinery.

‘Service City’ comprises a Regional Repair Factory, which will handle selected maintenance and logistics concepts for 11 countries, a Regional Training Centre, to train selected Middle East technicians in the service network and a Regional ‘Competence Centre’ to carry out handset analysis and high-end service solutions.

Faisal Al Bannai, CEO of Al Bannai Group, said at a press conference today: “Being chosen by Nokia to manage a world-class mobile maintenance, training and analysis centre for the region is a massive coup for Al Bannai Group; it also reflects Nokia’s commitment to the Middle East.”

Al-Bannai added: “The group has invested AED15 million in the first phase of the project, which is a key part of Nokia’s global strategy of delivering the highest service quality and technical support. The maintenance centre will work closely with Nokia’s Quality Assurance Division to ensure service consistency and promote knowledge sharing.”

Tomasz Zochowski, Customer Care Manager of Nokia Middle East, said: “The clear benefit for Nokia mobile phone users in the Middle East is that sophisticated maintenance can now be done on their doorstep at ‘Service City’ instead of in Europe.”

He said: “The significance of the UAE as a market for mobile phones and its role as a regional hub made Dubai an obvious location for a state-of-the-art Nokia servicing and training centre. We hope to strengthen our service quality facilities in the Middle East as we go forward and build on our partnership with Al Bannai Group.”

‘Service City’ has the capacity to service thousands of phones and the current set-up can be expanded to meet future demand.

Nokia is a world leader in mobile communications. Backed by its experience, innovation, user-friendliness and secure solutions, the company has become the leading supplier of mobile phones and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed broadband and IP networks.

By adding mobility to the Internet, Nokia creates new opportunities for companies and further enhances peoples’ quality of life. Nokia is a broadly held company with listings on five major stock exchanges.
