The total number of stores in the mall now stands at 134 and footfall in the centre has risen by an average of 20 % over the last 4 months.
Leading fashion brand MEXX will open its flagship store at Al Ghurair City this October. At over 8,000 sq. ft, the store will be the latest and largest MEXX concept in the entire GCC. It will merchandise the entire range of MEXX unisex fashion and accessories. The store will open well in time for the Autumn Winter season and will add significantly to the malls’ offering to shoppers.
Kuwait based retailer Al Shaya group, has also chosen Al Ghurair City as the location for three of its key brands – Evans, Milano and Claires. The stores will open through October – November this year. While Evans is known for its larger apparel sizes and is a recognised “High Street” retailer in Europe, Claires specialises in young ladies accessories. Milano will add to the shoes category for which the mall is well known.
In addition, Mothercare an existing Al Shaya store in the mall will be relocated and will open as a 3000 sq.ft destination store in the mall’s “children’s court”, located on the first floor level. The children’s court will include young apparel, toys, educational items, hair salon, games and maternity wear
Mr. Martin Saxon, Leasing Manager, Al Ghurair City said: “Since January this year, occupancy levels at Al Ghurair City have risen by some 20 percent with several unique stores opening their doors for trading. With a significant increase in the merchandise offering and increasing customer footfalls, interest in the mall continues to grow amongst prospective retailers based in the region and amongst retailers prospecting for sites out of Europe”.
In recent research carried out by AC Nielsen Amer, the mall registered an increase in spontaneous awareness of 23 % over December 2000.The advertising awareness of the mall has in the same period gone up by 8 % and the last month visits have gone up by 10 %.

Other international brands to open at Al Ghurair City in the next two months include the German brand ‘S.Oliver’, the new millennium concept store from BHS and a newly refurbished and bigger ‘Benetton’ store. ‘Cinnabon, Seattles Best Coffee’ and French casual dining concept, ‘Au Poivrier’ will also make their debut appearances at Al Ghurair City.
Stores that have recently opened at Al Ghurair City include Ecco Shoes, Agatha, Sun & Sand, Red Earth, Ann Summers, Tom Bohemia Crystal, Tanagra, Lapin House and bridal wear specialists Pronuptia from France. Samsung Digital Worlds’ first digital experience store in the Middle East has also opened up at the Al Ghurair City and is proving to be a strong attraction for Shoppers.
On completion, the Al Ghurair City project will result in a gross leasing area of 650,000 square feet, comprising anchor, specialty retail, restaurants, cinemas, entertainment arcades and a supermarket.
