The trademark new look of
Al Ghurair City (AGC) combines the best of Arabic culture and tradition with a vibrant and modern design that has been incorporated into the retail mall, the external streetscape, across the offices and residential area of the complex. Complementing its new look, AGC has also revealed a range of new facilities, including a new indoor multi-storey car park, all of which are designed to meet the needs of the modern shopper.
“Our internal and external look is steeped in local ambience but with a fresh, contemporary feel in keeping with the overall concept of a modern integrated high street mall experience. We have also undergone a complete upgrade in our infrastructure and facilities such as the new multi-storey car park and streetscape, with further developments soon to come. Backed by our offering of quality brands, our new look and facilities will further consolidate Al Ghurair City’s position as a leading shopping, entertainment and leisure destination in the Middle East.” Fred Watts, General Manager, Al Ghurair City said.
As part of the current US$120 million development programme, AGC will also launch a new 8-screen multiplex cinema and entertainment complex. Due to be opened in October 2002, the new multiplex facility will have a seating capacity for 1,200 cinema-goers.
The transformation of Al Ghurair City balances Arabic motifs featuring teak and gold finishing together with a blend of bright colours and warm lighting. Wooden teak beams and gold mesh fabric twirls on the ceiling give the feel of a traditional market. In total 234 gold meshes weighing 345 kgs were used on the ceiling. The complementary floor design is based on 22,000 tonnes of Terrazzo featuring a nature theme in an array of colours and motifs. All retail outlets in Al Ghurair City now feature wall-to-wall glass facades for maximum visibility of their merchandise for consumers while the newly refurbished Foodcourt was designed to integrate the theme of UAE’s rich marine heritage featuring turtles, shells and foliage from the seabed.
With its new multi-storey covered car park facility with extra width bays for easy parking, combined with the existing outdoor parking facilities, Al Ghurair City now provides space for 2,000 cars. A newly constructed sky bridge provides quick easy access to shoppers from the car park directly into the Mall. Bringing a unique inside-outside shopping experience, over 3000 sq metres of pedestrianised pavement have been created on Riqqa Road and this streetscape is currently being continued on all 4 sides of the complex.
Marking the new look, AGC also launched a bold new marketing campaign with the theme of “Surprise Yourself Everyday”.
“It’s all about being one step ahead of our customers expectations and not putting any limits on their imaginations.” Fadi Kachkouche, Marketing Manager, Al Ghurair City said. “The first surprise for visitors when they come to the City complex is our new look and layout which gives them the freedom and space to shop and socialize in comfort. Overall, we have transformed Al Ghurair City and we have many more surprises in store for customers as they walk through our doors.”
In addition to the multiplex cinema development, high on the list of new surprises at AGC is the upcoming launch of the Book Corner, which will represent the largest Book Store in the Middle East. In addition to leading high street names such as Austin Reed, Paris Gallery and BHS, AGC further strengthened its retail offering in recent months with the opening of Evans and Milano in addition to the Middle East flagship store of Mexx. Other recent retail developments include the relocation of the internationally renowned brand Mothercare to a larger 3,000 square foot facility and the refurbishment of Benetton and Espirit.
