The Duqm area is expected to become the next economic hub in the Al Wusta Region with plans to create a major city to serve as the administrative, industrial and commercial centre.
The Master Plan for the Duqm Area boasts of major infrastructure projects such as an international airport, sea-port, dry dock facilities, to be complemented by amenities such as shopping centres, schools and hospitals necessary to attract investors, service providers and people. Aside from the prosperity that it promises, the fast paced economic development in Duqm is likewise expected to produce massive amounts of both domestic and industrial waste.
OESHC has planned the development of an integrated waste management solution to anticipate the burgeoning industrial and economic activities in the area. OESHCo believes that it is imperative for a well developed, integrated waste management strategy be implemented in the area to ensure its sustainability and prosperity.
Dr. Kevin Cordes, Environmental Manager at Al Majal said, “This is an exciting and complex project with far reaching long-term benefits not just for Duqm but the entire region of Al Wusta which will contribute to the economic development of the country. We have a very experienced Omani and international team that are committed to provide the best consultancy service for the establishment of the proposed Integrated Waste Management system in Duqm, in order to achieve Al Majal’s company triple-bottom line vision of economic prosperity, environmental protection and social development in our Clients projects.”
The scope of the advisory services from Al Majal includes examining the technical, financial, environmental, legal and other critical aspects of the current waste management practice in Duqm in order to develop and introduce a new integrated waste management system that could adequately respond to the present and future needs for proper waste disposal in the area.
