This automotive icon represents a further addition to the 911 model range, and perpetuates a legendary and successful tradition of world-class technology, performance and image that captivated the hearts and souls of sports car aficionados all over the world. In its current sixth generation, the 911 Turbo benefits from a leap in technology and performance, ensuring it sets the standard for high performance sports cars in its class for several years to come.
Commenting on the introduction of the new 911 Turbo in Dubai, Mr. K. Rajaram, CEO, Al Nabooda Automobiles said,
“It is impossible to talk about the new Porsche 911 Turbo without using superlatives. Whether it is about its legendary status, unique design, or cutting edge technology and performance, this car is designed to redefine the concept of high performance sports cars around the world. The sixth generation 911 turbo raises the benchmark yet again against all sports cars in its class. Its impact will be phenomenal and long-lasting.”
The new 911 Turbo has an output of 480 hp at 6,000 rpm, 60 bhp more than its predecessor. Torque has also increased from 560 to 620 Newton-metre, and the engine revolution range across which the torque is available has widened from between 2,700 and 4,600 rpm in the previous 911 to between 1,950 and 5,000 rpm in the new 911.
These enhancements translate into a blistering performance where the car rockets from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds using the six-speed manual transmission, and in 3.7 seconds using the optionally available five-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission. Reaching the 200 km/hr mark from stand still takes an extremely swift 12.8 and 12.2 seconds respectively for both transmission variants – with a top speed of 310 km/h.
These performance figures are owed to exhaust gas turbochargers with variable turbine geometry, featuring for the first time in a gasoline engine. The principle of variable turbine geometry combines the advantages of small and large exhaust turbochargers and leads to a marked improvement in flexibility and acceleration, particularly at low speeds.
Georg Brune, General Manager, Porsche Centre Dubai, stressed the significance of launching the sixth generation 911 Turbo in Dubai: “A new era of driving dynamics will be unleashed in Dubai,an era that pushes the physics of sports car handling and performance to staggering heights never witnessed before in this segment. The new 911 Turbo serves our mission of providing customers with the best sports cars in the world. It will definitely be the most sought after high performance sports car in Dubai.’
The vehicle’s flexibility can be enhanced even further with the optional “Sport Chrono Package Turbo”, available for the first time, which on activation provides a short-time “overboost” at full throttle, increasing torque to a staggering 680 Newton-metre. To transfer the available power to the road, the new 911 Turbo features a redesigned all-wheel drive system “Porsche Traction Management (PTM)” with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch and variable power distribution to the two driven axles.
In practice this translates into high agility on narrow country roads, outstanding traction in rain and snow and optimal active safety even at high speeds. The new 911 Turbo’s driving performance is duly complemented by a high end brake system, optionally available with optimized “Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes” (PCCB).
The the new Porsche 911 Turbo will be available at showrooms starting 24 June, 2006.
