The signing ceremony took place at the office of Dr. Al Angary.
The agreement was signed by sheikh Sulaiman Al Rajhi on behalf of Sulaiman AlRajhi Civil University and professor Gay Peters, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dutch Maastricht University.
Upon conclusion of the signing ceremony, sheikh Sulaiman Al Rajhi expressed his happiness for this step by emphasizing its significance within the university’s passage towards enhancing its performance in light of the Dutch Maastricht University’s advanced international reputation in the field of medical education, as it is the headquarter of the medical education global network.
Mr. Al Rajhi clarified that “the medical college of Maastricht University is the first to apply medical education system in Europe through ‘Problems Based Learning’ (P.B.L.), which currently resembles the ultimate educational program worldwide as the aspiration of Al Rajhi University.”
Indicating that the Maastricht University is supervising numerous international projects and cooperate with India, Brazil, China, Mexico, Vietnam and Malaysia and such cooperation encompass all of its projects at those countries.
As far as the role of Al Rajhi University, he said that “the idea of initiating the university came into being through the founder’s sense of the significance of providing high level of nonprofit oriented, international quality education in the homeland for both sexes needed by the development plans and work market of the kingdom. Therefore, the founders concluded that the nucleus of the university should be the three faculties of medical faculty, nursing faculty and health science faculty in addition to specialized research centers along with building specialized university hospital. The university aspires to achieve distinction, supremacy, creativity and innovation in health science and educational technology.”
He also explained that “the university also targets to support the development of higher education strategies and narrowing the gap between the numbers of high school graduates and the numbers of those accepted in postsecondary institutions.”
In his concluding statement, Al Rjhi indicated that “the general supervision of the university has been commissioned to professor Saleh bin Abdullah Al Damegh for his prolonged academic background and wide experience in this field. He was the Vice President of Graduate Studies and Research at Qassim University, a member of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, the founder Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and chaired the preparing teams for numerous colleges such as the College of Applied Medical Science and the College of Dentistry and Pharmacy, as well as participating in establishing the Faculty of Applied medical Sciences of Al Jouf University.”
Worthy of mentioning is that the university project is located in Al Bakiriah Health City of Al-Qassim governorate, specifically at the highway that connects Riyadh with Al Madinah Al Monawarah, about 370km from Riyadh and with 102 million square meters. Just recently the university has contracted H.W.B., the specialized German Programming Consultancy Corporation with internationally recognized experience in planning and designing universities and hospitals projects for 30 years, and has designed numerous hospitals around the world.
