Al Samier seminar focuses on lighting for challenging environments

Lighting in challenging environments requires a lot of expertise, reliability and security. Given its competency in lighting such hazardous and challenging settings, Glamox group – the Norway-headquartered world leaders in marine lighting industry – has a pivotal role to play in shaping the lighting in challenging marine milieu in the Middle East in the years to come, officials said.

Top officials from Glamox were speaking at a seminar organised by the company in close coordination with Dubai-based Al Samier Electricals & Equipment – the marketing agents for Glamox in the UAE.

The one-day seminar attracted top-level officials from various shipyards and oil & gas related industrial companies in the UAE.

The forum not only detailed Glamox’s contribution to the Middle East till date but also shed light on the future demand for such specialized lighting expertise, given the scale and magnitude of construction under way in the region.

Mr Suresh Gandhi, Managing Director of Al Samier Electricals, said “The seminar was necessitated due to the demand of such world-class technology for marine applications in the UAE, which is fast growing as the preferred hub on the global shipping map. Glamox’s contribution to several iconic projects across the globe is proof of their ability to plan, execute and deliver on time, a vote of confidence in their reliability and quality execution.”

“When we are talking of hazardous areas, we mean places like oil rigs, FPSOs (Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading vessels), oil refineries, oil tankers and ships – where safety and security are the buzzwords and lighting is the key. Through Al Samier, Glamox has supplied lighting to several oil rigs, FPSOs and nearly 50 ships of different types besides luxury yachts.”

In their presentation, Mr Lars Ohlsson, Commercial Director, and Mr Vidar Johnson, Technical Director at Glamox, covered various facets of design and consultancy to the development and production of controls and total lighting solutions for practically all types of sea going vessels and for oil & gas industry.

Mr Ohlsson said: “Our product line includes safe and hazardous lights, Helideck lights, flood lights, obstruction lights and a vast array of special-purpose luminaries that allow people to master extreme situation at sea or on land.”
