ALARGAN International Real Estate participates at The Second Kuwait Green Building Forum

Mr. Khaled Al-Mashaan, Chairman and Managing Director, of ALARGAN International Real Estate, called for the need to minimize the depletion of natural resources, and reducing energy consumption through the establishment of green buildings, or environmentally friendly buildings by promoting the use of green building culture.

This was during the opening session of “The Second Kuwait Green Building Forum”. Mr. Al-Mashaan, explained that constructing environmentally friendly buildings is one of the most innovative and developed concepts in the world in general, and in the Arab region in particular.

He also pointed out that one of the main company’s objective at the current time is to spread the culture of green building among our people and promoting the concept of green buildings, which takes into consideration the characteristics of the general location of the buildings, energy, and the use of environmentally friendly materials. This interest is expected to grow in the near future, as the size of the green building market is on the rise.

He further indicated that this can be attained by following adopting modern technology ranging from developing a practical design to customizing an approach to reduce energy consumption.

It’s worth mentioning that ALARGAN International Real Estate Companyis the first Kuwaiti company to join the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and that was in 2007. The company also is working toward LEED certification (LEED) for Commercial Interiors.

Mr. Al-Mashaan added that the company was strongly committed to these standards in order to attain the highest level of LEED certification for commercial interiors, for its new headquarters, Argan Business Park, by reducing their energy usage and lowering their impact on the environment, which makes Argan Business Park the first Kuwaiti business complex to receive this prestigious certification for its environmentally friendly design.

He affirmed that the company must work toward developing a mechanism of actions consistent with a strategy to reduce both electricity and water consumption through various means including the solar cells that produce electricity directly from sunlight. These level requirements could be met by providing a concrete structure with an appropriate thermal mass, while the roof incorporates a large expanse of photovoltaic panels to take advantage of solar energy to generate clean energy.

It is worth mentioning that ALARGAN is also a member of the World Green Building Council (KGBC), a non-profit organization that is dedicated to encouraging green building practices in Kuwait. Realizing the importance of this matter, ALARGAN became one of the founders of Kuwait Green Building Council (KGBC), in order to promote provide an opportunity to use resources more efficiently, while creating healthier and more energy-efficient homes and commercial buildings, with lower power consumption.
