The international campus is the first venture of its kind outside of France for the Sorbonne, with courses focusing on French language, history, geography, literature and philosophy.
Students at the campus can expect to take some of their classes via the video conferencing systems and sit for real-time interactive lectures held in Paris.
A key technology that Alpha Data is introducing is the Multi Point Conferencing Unit that can simultaneously connect one site to 5 others, therefore allowing several classrooms at various locations to communicate simultaneously. This is important for the university because it enables students to connect with specialist organisations or other campuses in France or around world as part of their curriculum. A contents unit is also set to be deployed to allow professors to exhibit their presentation slides and material through the video conferencing system, enabling a more live classroom atmosphere for students.
“Our mission is to provide students with the knowledge to help them enhance their critical thinking, communication skills, and international perspective through our liberal-arts courses. Through the new video conferencing systems we can allow our students and Professors both here and in Paris to interact with each other and therefore give a new dimension to our courses that was previously unavailable,” said Mr. Khaled Al Rabaiei, IT Manager of Paris Sorbonne Abu Dhabi University.
“Paris-Sorbonne is one of the most prestigious universities in the world, we were delighted to have the opportunity to work with our partner, Polycom, to deploy these systems.” said Fadi Ramadan, Audio-Visual Division Manager of Alpha Data Abu Dhabi. “Universities have begun taking advantage of video conferencing technology to support their curriculums and delivery methods. Interactive tools such as video conferencing are rapidly becoming the standard, allowing students a richer learning experience regardless of geographical location.”
