HH the Prime Minister opens the 11th International Arab Aluminium Conference in Bahrain

Over 500 visitors and guests are expected to attend the opening ceremony of the conference which is being held at the Al Noor Ball Room, Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa.

Arabal is being hosted by ALBA and Bahrain’s aluminium downstream industries GARMCO, BALEXCO, Aluwheel, Midal Cables and Bahrain Atomisers International, jointly.

His Excellency the Minister of Oil, Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalfia said: “I would like to express my appreciation to the Government of Bahrain for their support and, in particular, to His Majesty The King, Sheikh Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, for his keen interest in developing a strong industrial base. Our thanks also goes to The Prime Minster Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa for his continuous guidance and His Highness The Crown Prince and Commander in Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force, Shaikh Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa for continued support.”

He also expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahad bin Abdula-Aziz Al Saud for continuous cooperation, especially in the area of industrial development which he said continues to strengthen the bond between the people of the two kingdoms.

His Excellency the Minister of Oil also said: “Bahrain is one of the world’s leaders in aluminium production and is proud to host this prestigious event for the third time in its twenty year history. The Arabal conference grows from strength to strength, and attracts more visitors each year, this year placing The Kingdom of Bahrain on centre stage within the industry worldwide clearly reflecting the prominence that the Middle East now has in the aluminium industry today.”

Over 450 delegates including the world’s top aluminium experts have registered to take part in this prestigious event which is held bi-enially and hosted in turn by Kuwait, UAE, Egypt and Bahrain and organised by the Arabal Secretariat working with an Organising Committee in each country. The event is taking place for the third time in its eleven year history in Bahrain.

The world’s media, including international and regional television channels as well as business will also be focussing its attention on the conference as a distinguished list of international speakers, headed by Key Note speaker Alain Belda, Director, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Aluminium Company of America (Alcoa), are set to discuss this year’s theme – ‘Critical Issues, Gobal Trends and Drivers’.

Other speakers include Richard B. Evans, Executive Vice President-Office of the President, Alcan Inc- Canada, Adrian Zaccaria, President & Chief Operating Officer, Bechtel Corporation- U.S.A, Patrick Kron, Chairman & Executive Officer, ALSTOM-France, J. Boardman, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Aluminium Company Ltd.- U.A.E, Mohideen Zaki, President of Factories and Industries, Egypt Aluminium- Egypt, Dr. Toni Marechaux, Director, National Materials Advisory Board- U.S. A, Rod Kinkead-Weekes, Marketing Director- U.K., Neil Banks, Director of Strategy, London Metal Exchange- U.K., and John Martin, Aluminium Business Unit.

During the three day event, delegates will also have the opportunity to view the exhibits of aluminium traders at an international ‘e’-exhibition of industry specialists, which is running alongside the conference as well as taking part in industrial visits which have been set up for delegates to see some of Bahrain’s key aluminium companies. The Industry visits will take place on the third day of the conference and will include visits to Garmco, Balexco, Midal Cable, Aluwheel & BAI, as well as a site visit to ALBA to view the progress of its Line 5 expansion project.
