In this two-day summit, over 150 men and women youth, government officials, activists, academics, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and civil society leaders, gathered to focus on the most pressing and vital issues related to women’s participation and leadership in society, as well as to share real-life success stories.
Mr. Khalid AlKhudair, Alwane KSA Country Officer and Founder of Glowork talked about the committee’s progress in establishing a partnership between the Ministry of Labor and recruitment companies to reduce the female unemployment rate (86%), which currently amounts to 1.2 million unemployed Saudi women between the ages of 20-35 years old.
Alwane KSA outlined some of their recent activities such as encouraging telecommuting where, by using a sophisticated modern control system, companies can monitor the work and productivity of their employees even if they are in remote areas and away from company headquarters. This responds to the current needs of many women in Saudi society and creates more job opportunities for them.
During the Summit, Alwane KSA shared its plans to launch awareness campaigns that illustrate the advantages and benefits of women’s engagement in the workforce, including women’s ability to provide for their own needs as well as to share in the responsibility of supporting the family.
Through these campaigns, the committee hopes to create positive change in Saudi women’s lives and economic status, Alwane KSA also aims to partner with information communication technology companies in the hopes of motivating women to explore opportunities and develop skills in this field as well.
Currently, many Saudi women hold bachelor degrees in Information Technology and Saudi Arabia is one of the highest smart application buying markets among Arab countries. Therefore, Saudi women can participate in this market, and create a local hub for IT development.
