Welcome remarks were made by Mr. Robert Hager, Chairman of AmCham Qatar and Managing Partner of Patton Boggs LLP. Mr. Hager discussed the origins of American Thanksgiving Day and the significance that on Thanksgiving Day AmCham Qatar members would gather to hear the challenges faced by Qatar to develop a comprehensive and sustainable long term solution with regards to its food security.
Mr. Al-Attiya briefed AmCham Qatar members on the global and domestic food supply perspective as well as an overview of QNFSP’s objectives and synergy with Qatar National Vision 2030. Members learned about impactful variables to Qatar food imports, including climate change, water scarcity, middle class growth and the political climate.
“Qatar National Food Security Programme hopes to achieve food security by overcoming the natural constraints through innovation and implementation of a sustainable infrastructure,” said Mr. Al-Attiya. He also discussed QNFSP’s plans in regards to renewable energy, water desalinization, domestic agriculture and food processing and safety. Following Mr. Al-Attiya’s presentation was a vibrant Question & Answer session with members engaging Mr. Al-Attiya in discussion.
