AJEX aims to reflect the positive developments in trade, economic and investment relations that exist between Jordan and the United States, and which have experienced exponential growth since the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) last year. The event will bring together key Jordanian, US and international business-leaders, government officials and civic society representatives to network and discuss trade and investment opportunities in Jordan, vis-à-vis the US market.
“AJEX 2003 will emphasize the strong business opportunities and benefits of trade between Jordan and the US, through the FTA, the QIZs, and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone. The event will serve as a vehicle for companies looking to take a strategic approach to doing business with the US and Jordan,” Ahmad Tantash, Chairman of JABA said.
Jordan presently serves as a gateway for commerce to regional and international markets. This is clearly witnessed by trade figures that reflect a 75% increase in exports to the US in 2003 year alone, making the US Jordan’s second biggest trading partner. Jordan also enjoys strong trade relations with its neighbouring countries. The country stands well above the regional average in its intra-regional trade, which stands at over 40 percent, compared to the regional average of approximately 10 per cent.
Jordan has taken significant steps in opening up its economy through regional and international trade agreements, including the Jordan-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the Qualifying Industrial Zones (QIZs) and the creation of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) in the southern port city of Aqaba. There has been a significant increase in the number of companies who are successfully establishing operations in Jordan to benefit from duty-free access to the US market, while also taking advantage of Jordan’s strategic location to export to a regional market of 300 million potential consumers.
AJEX 2003 will include participation from high-level speakers from the US, Jordan and the region, in addition to case studies and success stories of Jordanian, regional and international enterprises that are capitalising on Jordan’s strategic position as a gateway to the US.
“AJEX 2003 will build on the phenomenal growth in trade between Jordan and the US presenting traders and investors with an exclusive look at lucrative business opportunities in Jordan. The event will also explore ways and means of accessing the US market by highlighting the experiences of successful businesses and presenting expert viewpoints. AJEX is the ideal forum for networking and establishing business links for companies from Jordan, the US and elsewhere” said Raghda Butros, CEO of JABA.
Running parallel to the conference is a business-to-business exhibition of Jordanian and US goods and services, business service providers and export and investment development agencies. AJEX 2003 exhibition will also include a computer Show where prominent IT companies will showcase their products and services.
