APM Terminals Bahrain (APMTB), a subsidiary of one of the world leaders in port infrastructure, and the operator of Khalifa Bin Salman Port, today announced that their donation initiative for clothing, blankets and food to send to the victims of last week’s severe typhoon in the Philippines has been very successful.
According to APM Terminals Bahrain CEO Marco Neelsen, the response has exceeded their expectations. “APM Terminals employ a number of employees from the Philippines in Bahrain and elsewhere, and we have the utmost respect for this great seafaring nation. It was a natural reaction to want to donate to the victims, some of whom are related to our employees, and we have been greatly encouraged by the response from our staff, partners and friends also. The Philippine community, the Bahrain Shipping Agents Association, the Sacred Heart Church, SIGAC, Lulu Hypermarket, Agility Logistics and Svitzer Bahrain our partners in port marine operations all gave most generously. In addition DHL have agreed to airfreight the items to the Philippines and I can now confirm it has reached those affected by the typhoon. APM Terminals arranged the subsequent shipping of the clothes. We want to thank all who showed their solidarity with those affected by this disaster in the Philippines and we are proud to be part of this close-knit shipping and business community”, he concluded.
“The logistics involved in getting this aid to the most needy areas of the Philippines has been quite challenging”, said Bryan Webster, APM Terminals Bahrain Cargo General Manager. “We are very proud to say that our employees, partners and friends have joined together to work tirelessly to ensure the necessary items reach the right people in the shortest amount of time – this kind of coordination is something that APM Terminals is good at throughout the world”, he said.
The Bahrain Shipping Agents Association has played a significant role in ensuring the success of this donation drive. “We circulated the request received from APM Terminals Bahrain to all our members, and their response was a wonderful example of how people formed a virtual community working together for the good of others thousands of miles away”, said S. Sankaranarayanan, of the Bahrain Shipping Agents Association.
