Dr. Faisal Al Nasir, Vice-President of the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) and Professor Fazel Dar, the Medical College Dean were in attendance, along with other members of the medical faculty, medical students, friends and family members.
There were eleven speeches on a variety of topics relating to the lives of medical students. This year’s winners were: Alaa Abdulameer Radhi, who took first place with her speech called “Memory and Learning”; Omran Nasir Abdul Latif with “When Doctors are the Patients” came in second place and Mohamed Ali Al-Shabaan, in third spot with his speech “The Hospital – A whole new World”.
The trophy for best speech by a new speaker was awarded to Duaa Ahmed Qareeballa Yousif for “Your Choice” about child abuse. The other finalists were: Manar Abdulrahman Al Qaoud, Amal Ebrahim Alalwan, Abdulqader Sufyan Alarhayem, Zahra’a Adel Abdeen, Fatema Taha Faqihi, Yousif Saeed Al Saffar and Ziyab Khan.
The three judges were Nancy Shepherd, Siddika Sabbooni and Jon de Ath from the University of Bahrain, Ministry of Education and British Council respectively. The judges admitted they had a hard job deciding on winners this year as the quality of all the speeches was very high.
A guitar interlude was presented by Mai Saleh Sater and Mohammed Adel Ahmed and an entertaining quiz show, the final of the Knowledge Bowl, hosted by Amna Al-Busaidi and Manar Al-Sulaiti, finished the evening.
