This year, the Academy’s numbers will be boosted by successful participants from the 2006 Talent Identification Programme, as well as prospective scholarship students from developing countries around the world.
Combined with the new teaching and athletics staff recruited over the summer, the total ASPIRE community is now at its largest level ever, reflecting the Academy’s ongoing growth and development.
While the Academy will play host to a leading sporting event in December – the Doha Asian Games 2006 – teachers are keen to stress that the focus for the students will remain fixed on attending to their educational and athletic needs.
The social support and the Champions Education Program, especially designed for ASPIRE student athletes, will also continue to develop, enabling the students to cover a broad range of subjects, supported by ASPIRE’s extensive extracurricular and social programme.
Prof. Dr. Dieter Hackfort, Dean of ASPIRE, said, “We welcome returning students back for another demanding year of study and training, and look forward to working with the new intake. ASPIRE continues to work towards its mission of identifying and developing champions, and our ongoing growth and evolution demonstrates the strides we are making towards this.”
“This year will be extremely busy, both internally as we continue to evolve the curriculum, and externally, as we host the Asian Games in December. However, while that experience will be fascinating for the students, they understand that their attention needs to be upon their own development, and on supporting their classmates.”
ASPIRE’s dedicated Social Affairs Section is also preparing to be busy in the new year, offering counselling for the student athletes in areas such as career management and development. As ASPIRE students reach graduation age, the Academy is keen to ensure that they reach their full potential in their chosen fields.
